Freelancer

A freelancer, freelance worker, or freelance is a self-employed person who pursues a profession without a long-term commitment to any particular employer.

Common Freelancing include journalism, book publishing, journal publishing, article writing, editing, copy editing, proofreading, indexing, copy writing, computer programming and graphic design, consulting and translating.

Payment for freelance work also varies greatly. Freelancers may charge by the day, hour, or page or on a per-project basis. Freelancers are ability to be flexible and to come on board when a company need arises means that you are often in a better position to negotiate a higher rate.

Depending on the nature of the work undertaken, freelancing can mean that you gain a broader range of skills and experiences.  For example, a freelance writer can work for various different publications in a range of sectors, or a freelance project manager can gain an insight into diverse industries.  This knowledge can then help you to decide which contract you wish to undertake in the future.

There are Advantage and Disadvantage being a freelancer.

Advantage

There are  many advantages being a freelancer. A person who is self employed can usually choose their own work schedule. Income may be greater than when working for an employer. A freelancer is his or her own boss and has the freedom to work independently, usually from the comfort of home. Freelancers also have the opportunity to pick and choose which jobs are of interest.

Disadvantage

Freelancer may be difficult to maintain steady stream of work, thus the income is uncertain. Freelancer is responsible for finding and winning projects.  Sometimes, convincing a client to hire a particular freelancer can be a job in itself. Freelancer also lack of company benefits such as a pension, health insurance, paid holidays and bonuses.
