Being able to set your own hours is an enticing incentive in the work at home environment. For anyone lacking self-discipline, however, this could be a potential for failure. The temptation exists to sleep late and work fewer hours. Priorities need to be set at home just as they are set in the traditional work environment.
When you decide to work from home, you are saying that you will do whatever it takes to get the job done. If you have clients that are depending on your services and you fail to meet their deadlines, you are essentially saying that you do not care about their needs.
If you do not have children, there should be very few distractions keeping you from getting your work done during the day. If you do have children, consider getting a babysitter for the times when you are busy. When you begin to work from home, you might get lost in the idea that it is nice to get up when you want and work when you feel like it. Soon enough, however, you may find yourself unable to get your work done.
While it is possible to work in your pajamas, when you first start to work from home, it is recommended that you get up and get ready for work until you are settled into a routine. After you feel comfortable with your new schedule, then you can adjust your schedule and work at times that are more convenient for you.
It is also important to be organized so that no details are overlooked. If you are providing services to clients, ensure that you provide complete work to your customer. Be prepared to work more hours than normal until you are familiar with in your current work, at which time it may be possible to reduce the number of hours that you work.
